Tips To Reduce Hyperpigmentation

Hyperpigmentation can be described as a condition where different areas on the skin

appear to be darker than others. Typically, the darkening on the skin is a result of excess melanin in specific areas.

A few causes of hyperpigmentation are sunburns, tanning, and tattoos. Here are a few ways to prevent hyperpigmentation on the skin.

USE SUNSCREEN

Exposure to the sun can lead to hyperpigmentation on the skin. When certain areas of the skin are covered up and other areas are exposed, this can lead to hyperpigmentation.

Melanin is a key item that our body produces to protect the skin from the sun. Unfortunately, when the skin is overexposed to harmful UV rays, this impacts the production of melanin in our body, which may result in hyperpigmentation.

Additionally, it is important to limit or stray away from tanning because this also hinders the process of melanin in the body.

Studies have shown that wearing sunscreen may reduce the impact of hyperpigmentation on the skin. It’s important to find a sunscreen that has an adequate SPF level to help protect the skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays.

AVOID PICKING THE SKIN

Scar tissue on the face can ultimately cause hyperpigmentation. If you have a pimple or acne spots on the face, it’s important to minimize physical touch near the area to avoid scarring during the healing process.

Allow your skin to heal naturally without the use of other products to speed up the process. Doing this can also cause scarring, or lead to an infection in the area.

USE SKIN LIGHTENING CREAMS

Using topical creams that have skin lightening ingredients may help reduce hyperpigmentation on the skin. Skin lighteners work by reducing the amount of melanin in the impacted area to help brighten the skin. Research shows that using skin lightening creams may help smoothen out age spots, blemishes, and acne scars on the skin. They may be applied directly to the area once a day for maximum results.

Make sure to consult with a licensed dermatologist if your symptoms have worsened or you notice redness, swelling or inflammation on the skin. Always make sure you research and become familiar with a new product before applying it to your skin. Keep in mind that the healing process does not take place overnight, and it’s important to embrace your skin during the process.
